Liverpool Grand Prix have announced a major deal for 2015 for the V12 engines that will power their challenger for the third season of the F1 Fanatic Virtual Grand Prix Championship. They will maintain a close partnership with Vauxhall, who will be working alongside their new engine manufacturer in the development of the powertrain and gearbox, but Vauxhall felt the V12 engines wouldn't suit their business model, so Liverpool looked elsewhere for the powerplant. We can exclusively reveal that, for 2015, Liverpool Grand Prix will run Downton engines.
Liverpool Technical Director of Powertrain development Clive Wilson was delighted: 'It's a great deal, we can get a powerplant that has been developed by a dedicated team over at Downton High Performance Engines, and we are maintaining the close relationship with Vauxhall, and the fact both of these brands will work together for us is fantastic.' The driver line-up took a step further to being completed yesterday, as Karl Beckenbauer joined Adrien Simon in remaining with the team for a third season. When questioned, Wilson responded: 'It was important to us that we retained the two drivers that have contributed to the development of our cars over the past two seasons as we enter a new regulations cycle, and we early on decided that they would be heavily involved in the development of the car - which lead to the feeling that it was necessary that we needed to sign them at all costs, and in the end we remained unchallenged in our bids, despite their fantastic performances so far this season.' Despite his re-signing, it is generally considered that one of Liverpool's current drivers will be allocated as the reserve and test driver next season, with their experience proving valuable to the car's development, but the feeling around Ellesmere Port is that a younger driver is needed to give the team security in future seasons, with both of the drivers currently racing for the Liverpool Grand Prix Junior Team, whose engine supply will incidentally remain with Vauxhall, held in high regard around the factory.
