KLM Team 23 has launched its 2014 F1FVGPC contender: the T23/2. The team revealed the new car at a KLM hangar at Schiphol airport, followed by a runway shakedown by Jean Mattson and Elroy Wagner.
Team principal Andae d'Hazorme: "We are very pleased to have KLM Royal Dutch Airlines as our title sponsor for 2014. As such, the colour light blue was introduced on our car, which makes the car look awesome in my opinion. The chosen numbers, 19 and 20, are also based on KLM's history: their first flight was in 1920.
"Last season, we were really surprised to be fighting for the championship, but it was still painful to miss out on both titles in the end. This season, we're going for the championship!"
Jean Mattson: "I've just driven the new car and it feels good. I hope it is just as fast through the corners as it was on the runway. I hope the car is able to fight for victories just like last year, but we will just have to wait until pre-season testing to find out."
Elroy Wagner: "Yeah, it looks alright, but to be honest I really don't car - as long as it goes fast. The car from last year was very good, but the reliability was just piss-poor. If they managed to fix that, then hopefully this car will match my talent. I mean, the only reason I finished behind Mattson was because the T23/1 was not as good as I was, I just can't drive that's not up to my level. So yeah, I'm looking forward to this year."
KLM Team 23 took the opportunity to introduce a new test driver: Jarod Lindsey from New Zealand. Lindsey: "Obviously I'm really happy to be a test driver for KLM Team 23, and for sure I'm looking forward to driving this car. This year will be a learning curve for me, I'm happy that the team principal has given me this chance."
Second test driver Jacinto van Slooten: "I'm still hoping for a chance to show my worth in the World Championship. I'm very happy that the Downton team gave me the opportunity to gain experience, but with all due respect, I would love to drive a car that is able to fight for victories."
