Ocelot Japan Racing and Finland's Ultimate Nordic FV team made a surprising announcement after the third day of winter testing. Hugh Dwyer, who raced for the Finnish team last year but was demoted to reserve role this season, will race for Ocelot in the opening race of the season in Melbourne. The Canadian will replace Judson Sikes. Ocelot team principle Rai Miyamoto had the following to say about the change:
”We were pleasantly surprised when Dwyer and his team approached us for a potential seat in the team and it was an offer we couldn't refuse especially with the talent he brings on board to the team.” Rai Miyamoto was quick to insure that young rookie, Judson Sikes had not lost his seat. ”Judson is a great kid, who has great talent, we just as a team felt that Dwyer would bring more experience for the first race of the season and some useful data to help progress the car even further in helping us close the gap to our rivals.” Despite these words, there are some rumors that Dwyer might be driving more than just one race. Wildest rumors suggest that the Canadian might even drive the whole season for the Japanese newcomers, but FUN's Team Principal Dick Diceman plays down these rumors: "For now, we have a deal for one race and one race only. Of course I'm open for discussion if Ocelot need Hugh's services in further races, but let's not jump into conclusions before we see how he does. I'm very happy for Hugh and really glad he gets this chance to show again what he is capable of. I'm expecting a strong performance from him, and I'm sure he won't disappoint the people at Ocelot" The Canadian himself was obviously very excited: "I am very excited about this chance. I was very disappointed after I was dropped from FUN's racing line-up, and since then I have worked really hard to get back to where I belong. I'm glad my comeback happened this soon, and I'm really thankful for both Ocelot and FUN for making this possible. I'm sure I won't disappoint anyone." We couldn't reach Skies to comment about this sudden decision.
