Nathaniel Powers was first to arrive but slowly as he'd decided to take an extra lap to warm up his tyres. Stuart Harrison was flat out behind him, caught the oil, and took Powers with him on his way to the barriers. Arden Hutchinson followed closely behind and also reached the barriers, while Elroy Wagner slowed but still span.
The action unfolded so quickly the marshals barely had time to get the slippery surface and yellow flags out by the time Will Hoskins and Kip Maxwell added to the expensive car park collecting in the barriers at the exit of turn one. With five cars now in the wall the red flag was thrown and the oil cleared up while the debris and cars were cleared. When the session eventually started properly it was Adrien Simon who led the way, but Johan Halvosen set a 1:17.305 around the half hour mark and was never beaten. Jean Mattson lapped just two tenths slower to join him on the front row, while Carson Davenport heads home favourite Elroy Wagner on row two. DS were disappointed with sixth and seventh, while James Harding and Felix Beyer both broke into the top ten as a result of the offs from others. Towards the back Aron Einarsson and Holmqvist topped the battle of the new teams for the first time this season - putting the Swedish machine seventeenth on the grid.
