Puccio Giodano has become the first driver in 2018 to take a second pole position ahead of the French V-Prix, but it was a bad day at the office for defending Champion Nathaniel Powers who crashed during the session and will line up 11th. Giodano looked set for a third row start just behind his team mate Ryota Yoshida, but his stunning last effort put him a tenth and a half clear of Allar Kangur. Klaas van Snelheid had set purple first and second sectors, but a small mistake at the final corner meant he crossed the line 0.029 down on Giodano in second place. Enrique Ruiz completed the second row in fourth while Jean Mattson joins Yoshida on the third row, starting from sixth. Home hero Adrien Simon was disappointed with seventh alongside former team mate Olen Inman, while Will Hoskins and James Vasquez completed the top ten. Just outside was Powers, who completed just four laps early in the session before his suspension failed and pitched him into the barrier down the Mistral straight. The session was red flagged while the debris was cleared up, but a clearly frustrated Powers was out, and forced to watch from the sidelines. Alongside Powers is Gabriele Garcia - the Brazilian putting in another super sub performance - while Phoenix also continue to impress, locking out the eighth row. Dmytro Kovalenko was delighted with 18th for AMR after a difficult practice session - while new team mate Finn Schnyder could only manage 22nd - and Meteor's two rookies will accompany one another on the back row of the grid for their home race.
