Today we take a look into the family of Danilo Forini and take some questions from the fans! “Welcome back to Formula Forini, a conversational podcast in which I talk about well...mostly myself but also Formula Virtual and engage with you, the fans. I have to say that the response I had to the last podcast was so great, some of the comments were so nice to read, so thank you to everyone who got in touch!”
“Now before we get into your questions, I thought it would be nice to talk a little bit about my family. We talked a lot about my career up until this point, but my family is what got me here today,” “So, let’s start with my dad - Nolan Forini. My dad was my main inspiration for my passion for Motorsport. He did a little bit of racing in his youth, but never took it further than that, deciding to provide for his family instead. Now that may seem like he gave up on his dreams for us, but he always tells us how he didn’t really have the talent to succeed at a high level. Whether that’s true or not, or whether he’s just saying that to make us feel better, I don’t know, but I can’t thank him enough for the support he’s given me throughout my life. I remember watching a lot of Motorsport with him growing up. As a businessman, he’s very astute and gives me sound advice when it comes to the more professional side of things, not only financially, but also the way to carry yourself. A lot of people only see that side of him, but I am also aware of the goofy side too. Honestly, he’s amazing,” “My mother - Elena Forini - is a very strong and independent woman. I should add that both of my parents are Swiss, but they actually met watching a race on holiday in Italy, I forget where they said they were now despite how many times they’ve told that story - my bad. My mother was always very supportive of my father, and when I decided to start racing, she did the same for me too. It was through her that I learned that even when times are tough, you don’t stop trying. She was my rock during 2018 and 2019 when times became hard, and strengthened my spirit. Without her, I don’t think I would have come out of the other side as strong as I am now, and certainly not with a contract to race in Formula Virtual in 2021, with Franklin of all teams,” “I also have one sister - Mila. Mila never really got interested in the racing side of things, but into law instead. She actually works with my dad as the company’s legal advisor. Honestly, the smartest woman I’ve ever met...sorry mum. Couldn’t be prouder of her. My sister is a few years older than me, and has always been very protective of me. Don’t get me wrong, like any siblings, we fought a lot growing up, but she was, and still is pretty great,” “So that’s my family anyway...my immediate family at least. Like I said, I wouldn’t be where I am without them. They’ve worked just as hard as I have to help achieve my dream of racing in Formula Virtual, and I’m so happy to be able to share that with them, to finally be able to realise all of that hard work and hopefully make them proud. Obviously, the hard work doesn’t stop there. We may not be having to run around to get sponsorships to keep me going, or travelling long distances to race meets, but I want to show them that it was all worth it by not only being in FV, but succeeding as well,” “Anyway, I think it’s about time we take some questions from you guys, and we’re going to start with a question from ‘MarktheFVFan’, good name, man. He asks ‘What are you looking forward to most about Formula Virtual with Franklin, and what goals do you have in mind for your first season?’ - Honestly, one of the things I’m most looking forward to is just sitting in that cockpit. I think I’ve said before, but seeing that legendary car on the grid in 2013, I’ve fantasised about being able to race a Franklin, so it’s going to be a dream come true to be able to do that, and I think it’s going to be really emotional. As for my goals...I mean, it’s hard to say where the car will be in terms of performance at the moment, so I’m not going to jump the gun, but I want to push myself and show that I belong there, so the first target will be to get to know the team, integrate myself well, get comfortable, and then go out and try to beat whoever my teammate will be. I think we’ve all been impressed with what Nick Addison has done in that Franklin this year, so I’m going to need to be at the top of my game - and I will be,” “Next question comes from...haha, Neil Allenby, there’s a familiar name, didn’t realise you were listening, Neil! He asks ‘Which race do you think was your best ever performance and why?’ - this one is a tough one, because there have been so many races. Possibly my podium in Abu Dhabi last year? It had been a tough year, and a really tough weekend, so to end it on a high with a podium felt like a win to me, and that’s what it’s all about for me, not that I plan on having a difficult time of things going forward, but if I do then I’m going to be one resilient mother...and I’ll stop myself there,” “Third and final question for today comes from SammytheSpider, interesting name. She asks ‘Do you have a racing nickname, and if so, why do you have it?’ - I love this question, I have to say. So recently, people have started calling me the Ironman haha. I think partly it’s because I have such a hardened spirit, someone who keeps going no matter what. If you see me in the gym as well...I don’t stop. Admittedly, I’ve improved even more since joining the JFPT program, but, without wanting to seem arrogant, my endurance is off the charts. In a sport that’s so competitive, I don’t want to leave anything on the table, so I strive to be in the best physical shape possible, and I will make sure I am the fittest on the grid, bar none. The other reason is that I love Ironman. I remember watching the film when it came out in 2008 when I was 9 and I was just captivated. By far one of my favourite characters of all time, and he just looks so cool,” “So that’s it for another episode of Formula Forini. I hope you’ve all enjoyed today’s podcast. As always, please send in any questions you have, and if I didn’t read out your question this time, then don’t panic, there’s always a chance that I’ll get to it next time. From the bottom of my heart I want to say thank you for all the kind words once again, it’s so nice to be able to engage with such great fans and I’ll talk to you all soon. Take care!”
