In this episode, Danilo talks about his fitness, how he got in touch with Franklin, and his swiss influences in Formula Virtual. "Hey guys, and welcome back to the Formula Forini podcast! First thing I want to talk about today is my new helmet design, as I'm sure you've all seen now after I posted it. For the longest time I've been racing with the helmet my dad used when he was racing all those years ago, as I wanted to tribute him. But after talking with him, we both decided that I should create my own legacy. It took a lot of thought, but I finally decided to go with one of my childhood inspirations and link it with my racing nickname too, hence the Ironman design. I honestly couldn't be happier, and I'm so looking forward to racing with it for the 2021 season!"
"I think that is a nice way to segway into what I wanted to talk about today as well, which is something that I saw a lot in the comments after the last podcast, and that's to go into more detail about my fitness, and also how the conversations with Franklin went. Did they approach me? Did I approach them? So I want to discuss that today and tell you guys about what happened. Funnily enough they're actually linked," "So I've told you guys that 2019 was probably one of my worst seasons. After the last race, I really took stock of everything and wanted to look at how I could improve, how I could make myself so ready for 2020 that nothing would be able to stand in my way. Obviously in terms of actual driving, there's very little you can do over the winter, but I decided that I would make myself mentally as ready as possible. I started doing a lot of mental exercises, improving my focus, my concentration, my reaction times, all of these, they're all super crucial when you are racing at super speeds and need to make split second decisions, and the help I received was incredible, I honestly think that I'm so much better now because of it. On top of that, I wanted to get myself in best physical shape possible too. To do that I wanted to reach out to Jamie Franklin. At this time, Franklin was set to leave Formula Virtual, and was focused much more on training, so I got in touch with him and talked to him about what I wanted to achieve. He was honestly so helpful, and since then has taken me to, and pushed past my limits so much so that like I said last time, I fully believe I am one of, if not the fittest driver on the grid, at least in VWRS. Maybe with the work he did with Enrique and Adrien during his stint with Porsche I'd have a bit of competition for that title in FV haha," "So through working with Jamie throughout the winter I prepared myself for 2020 better than I ever have before, and during that time I think Jamie saw my hard work and dedication. He saw the fire in my eyes and that passion to succeed that I think he looks for in a driver. When Franklin decided to continue on in the sport, I was as happy as anyone. They deserve to be here, and I think it was right around this time, after the first few weeks of the season, that Franklin as a team started to look at me as a driver. I'm not going to say I've had the greatest start to the season, but given the competition I'm up against, I think it's hard for any one of us to have that. But I think Jamie has seen something in me that he wants at Franklin, and I'm going to prove him right. He still trains me now, and with the increased management over my career for the rest of the season, I really think they can take me to the next level for my 2020 campaign," "So, with that I'm going to take my first question of the podcast, and this one comes from giggedygoo69...I reckon my favourite one so far haha! The question is 'What do you think of Finn Schnyder?' - I've seen a lot of people comparing myself with Finn, naturally because we're both Swiss. I, personally was really excited to see a Swiss driver make the grid in 2017, and I think everyone was impressed with how he did, a podium in his second race, only 20 odd points behind Tumo Kinnumen who was a much more established driver, and finishing 7th in the Championship. Honestly, if I could have a first season like that, I'd be really happy. Unfortunately, he's been at AMR for the last three years, and they've...they've not exactly been competitive, so it's a shame that he's not had a chance to prove more, but I'm sure given the right car, he could have some great races," "Naturally speaking about the Swiss in FV, it's easy to segway into another question I had from a few people, which is about Lopez, the only Swiss team in FV. Honestly, I think it's great that Switzerland is represented in this way. I think a lot of people would expect that I naturally gravitate towards them, but I'm not a nationalistic person in that way, but I am happy that their presence in Switzerland has given us more exposure and probably made it an easier path to get to Formula Virtual," "So that's it for today's episode! I hope again that you enjoyed it. Again, if you have any questions, then please send them my way, I really want to interact with you guys and be as open and candid as I can. Until next time!"
