On the day before the 2018 Malaysian V-Prix, it has been confirmed that the 2019 will see an extra tyre compound introduced to the series. The news was made official by series CEO, Nic Morley, and representatives of Goodyear. The American tyre company that has supplied the series since 2017 will bring a record number of five different tyre compounds next year. Since the beginning of 2016, a Super Soft, Soft, Medium, and Hard tyre has been available for teams at each race. Michelin and Firestone provided these four compounds, before Goodyear scored a deal to becomes the series sole tyre supplier from 2017 on wards. It was also revealed that Goodyear will continue to supply tyres at least until the end of 2020.
It is yet to be revealed what the new tyre compound will be named, or what the color it may sport. It was however rumored that it may be named the 'Super Hard', starting after a week ago, Morley said this would be the most likely option. Ultra soft has also been touted as a potential name. The decision and reveal of the new tyre is expected to be done before the 2018 British V-Prix. "Goodyear are such a fantastic tyre brand and I have the absolute top respect for them. They have such a rich racing pedigree, so it is an absolute honor to see them supply Formula Virtual with tyres until at least the end of 2020. What is even more exciting is that next year, we will have an additional compound added. I'm not allowed to reveal it yet, but be sure that all will come to fruition before the next race at Silverstone. There has been a lot of thought put into this decision and there will be some work to overhaul all the compounds for next year to provide the fans, teams, and drivers a strategic spectacle", explained Nic Morley. While an extra compound will make it's debut in 2019, the heavily rumored car setups are also expected to add even more strategic next year. Comments are closed.
