Following the Spanish V-Prix, where Phoenix once again had a poor race and left Jerez empty handed, the team have announced that Founder and Team Principal Alex Easton will be handing over the reins at the Mancunian outfit. Phoenix have had an abysmal 2020 season so far and had they not had their lucky result in Japan, would currently sit second last in the championship. When asked if the decision was performance related, though, Easton said “No no, not at all. It’s been pretty woeful so far, yeah, but this has absolutely nothing to do with how we’re doing on-track - the decision is a personal one. I won’t bore you all with the details but I’ll be going off to further my own career and simply could not manage to juggle the two; managing a Formula Virtual team deserves your full attention and I just won’t be able to justify that. I like to think not much will change though, for people on the outside looking in. Phoenix will still be the same as always but with Christian [Sear, Deputy Team Principal and Co-Founder] running things instead. From the end of August, he will be taking the reins of Phoenix. I’m not sure what race that will be, it depends on how the calendar shapes up, but I’d hazard a guess at about four races time.” Easton was also asked about Xylander, and if his seat is secure, to which he replied “I can't say much just yet I'm afriad, other than he needs stronger glasses I reckon, but he’ll have to bloody pay for them himself!” The team later released a full statement and mentioned that "while this will be the solution for the latter part of this season, nothing at all has yet been decided going forward for 2021."
