The first day of pre-season testing ahead of the 2019 Formula Virtual season brought with it the first appearance of the PX2 - the first DS Phoenix car since their well documented re-branding. Whilst the majority of the cameras were fixed on the big hitters of Formula Virtual, the PX2 was quietly revealed from inside the garage to a couple of passers by then wheeled out for a few pictures, before reserve driver James Thompson went out for a busy day of testing. The very low-key unveiling could well be an omen of the season to come for the British team, with their 2019 car reportedly only just being ready for Saturday’s test – a stark contrast to some teams, who had their challengers almost ready over sixty days ago; in late December. However, DS Phoenix team principal Alex Easton seemed upbeat when asked about things. “Of course it’s not ideal but as I’ve said a few times recently; we know why we’re a bit late with things and no one’s feeling sorry for themselves or stressing out too much – we just know we’ve got to roll our sleeves up and crack on now. We’ll see where we end up and we’ll go from there, the main thing is that we’re here and we’re buzzing to be going racing again soon – no matter where we are in the pecking order. Today was really all about JT just giving the car a proper shakedown to be honest, learning about the DS power unit and making sure nothing fell apart! At the end of the day he's managed to get the joint highest number of laps so we're thrilled with that, no major issues either. As for the livery itself – it’s the same principal as our inaugural FV livery last season but it’s been majorly updated to reflect our new deals. Vitafoam remain a large influence on the car with the bright yellow, while Ronseal, Memorex, and the Co-Operative have stayed with us too. We’ve got a raft of new deals with Bulmers, Crowne Plaza, Airbus, Alcon, GKN, Total, our title sponsor Ecotricity, and obviously DS Automobiles on there too, as well as Anxiety UK on the engine cover and the Manchester bee - which will be visible on all onboard shots! We’re once again very proud of how it all looks.”
