As talk grows of engine deals falling into place for next season Downton team boss Bradley Downton has spoken openly about the team's decision to run it's own engines for next year. Downton announced last month that as of next season they plan to build and run their own engines, ending their year long partnership with Pagani.
They will become the first team in the Championship to build their own engines however Downton admits he doesn't expect it all to be plain sailing. 'I'm not going to lie, we are quite worried about next year. We're building our own engine and it's coming along quite nicely however we have had teething problems, as expected with anything. We've also realised that this may cause us some financial difficulty unless we can find a team to supply engines to as well. I'm hoping for some offer to be honest but the best thing for us financially is if we can supply just one other team. If our engine proves a success we may be able to supply others in coming seasons, but for now we just need the one.' When asked whether they were the British engine manufacturer that Team 23 were talking about being supplied by next season Downton responded 'I cannot confirm nor deny these reports. To work with a team like Team 23 would be a huge privilege given their position, but there are a lot of other - more proven - choices for them out there.'

I can understand Downton building their own engines, but I think it would be a risk for a rival team to use their engines at this time.
