Bradley Downton - team principal of the Downton FV Team - has exclusively revealed at his twenty-third birthday party tonight the tale of how his team came to race in FV, a story that was previously unknown, while also lavishing praise on those who have helped him along the way. The party - paid for in full by Downton with a free bar - is attended by all Downton employees and their families, as well as a good number of fellow team principals, drivers on the grid, and select members of the other teams with whom he has friendships. Notably, neither Marcus or Kiara Thunder are in attendance, while Franklin front runner Enrique Ruiz is also absent.
As is somewhat customary, Downton gave a speech once everyone had arrived. "I'd just like to welcome you all to this party and thank you for coming. I know we all have a race coming up in Belgium shortly, but I thought there was no better way for us all to have a laugh and let our hair down than with a great big knees up - especially with the tension that has arisen recently, and that is the last I'll say on that tonight!" "I've had a great day so far, but I think the best present has to be the performance we've managed to put in so far this season, and hopefully will continue to for the remainder of the year. But in a way, I owe all that to Nic Morley. Firstly for setting up this fantastic series, and secondly for accepting our - very late - entrance to the grid back in 2013, without which it's entirely possible we wouldn't be here today. Though some of you may be wishing that was the case!" "I got quite lucky when I was just 16 and got a rather large lottery win, which I invested into property development and letting through my dad until I turned 18, when I took over. I then kept building that and suddenly I had a phone call from Nic - we knew each other previously through online racing believe it or not - asking me if I wanted to join this new racing series he'd set up. We had a long discussion on the phone, he said there were still a few spots left, and I was convinced; though I had to ensure it would be the right move for me financially." "I did some calculations and got another call a few days later to say the entrants list was nearly full, so I bit the bullet and threw my hat into the ring, and I'm glad I did so. Since we've been around, the community we've built has been incredible - just look around you - and I've made so many good mates for life." "Most notably of these of course are Harry, who I speak to regularly, go out drinking with now and then - the less said about that the better - and thoroughly enjoy commentating with, and Robert, who I literally speak to daily and has become one of my best mates. He's also been instrumental in some rather big moment in my life to date, and in the success we've had so far this season. So while I know he's disappointed it's not him heading the field, I know he's happy it's me up front - as I was last season." "I also owe huge thanks to DS Automobiles and Monster Energy, without whom our continued presence in this fantastic series would be a much more costly and difficult affair. Despite our season one engine agreement with Pagani, we signed - very early on - a deal with DS Automobiles to build our own engines with their technical support, and it really has made the difference. Prior to the season we ran our cars with our bulk standard engines, and then with them again after the DS guys had worked their magic, and they were instantly half a second quicker." "Monster Energy too have been fantastic - along with all of our other sponsors of course - but Monster have been with us since day one and have supported us the most, and we are truly grateful. But anyway, I've talked for long enough and I don't want to bore you any longer. So it just remains for me to thank you all once again for coming, and I hope you all have a fantastic evening. Now go and enjoy the free bar!"
