Downton F1 team principal Bradley Downton has slammed Mathershaw and Westwood drivers Karl Beckenbauer and Douglas Bacon for 'dangerous' moves that eliminated other drivers from the Chinese Grand Prix. Beckenbauer slowed and turned across the track - in front of Downton driver van Slooten - before being collected by the unfortunate Diego Campos while Bacon missed his braking point at the final corner and eliminated the other Downton of Marcus Thunder from the race. In an interview following the race Downton commented: 'This kind of driving is simply unacceptable. Karl was very very stupid in this race. He made the mistake of driving into his teammate and losing his front wing and then decided to skip the pits. He then proceeded to drive slowly down the start finish straight before turning across the track into the path of oncoming cars. Jacinto was lucky to avoid the idiot but poor Diego wasn't, collecting the Mathershaw car in a nasty incident. Beckenbauer then drove off at full speed, what on earth is that all about?! I think he deserves a race ban at the very least, his driving was dangerous and stupid and could have killed someone.
When asked about the incident that eliminated Thunder from the race Downton replied: 'Again, a very stupid move. Bacon just drove straight into the back of Marcus at a very high speed, with no attempt to brake. I definitely want this looked at and a penalty applied, he could have seriously injured many people - including Marcus and the marshals. Marcus visited the medical center and is suffering from a very bad back, he is resting at the moment. There were also similar incident to this that I think should be investigated, this sort of thing needs to be eliminated form our sport.
