Downton bounced back from a difficult practice session to lock out the front row in qualifying for the United States V-Prix, with Klaas van Snelheid shading team mate Nathaniel Powers for pole position by just eight thousandths of a second. The Championship battling duo were trading places throughout the session, but Klaas' lap of 1:05.904 just as the chequered flag fell was enough to depose his team mate as he looks to stop the rot and get his challenge back on track having lost 55 points to Powers in the last four races.
Winner from last time out - Karl Beckenbauer - got the closest to the pair of them and will start third, just one tenth shy of pole position, while Allar Kangur will join him on the second row with a career best fourth. The Estonian has struggled all season over a single lap but has impressed in races, and will be hoping this serves as a turning point so he doesn't have to constantly fight back to the front. Puccio Giodano and Tumo Kinnumen will start together on row three ahead of Arden Hutchinson, while Adrien Simon and Enrique Ruiz both only just made it into the top ten, with Sikes rounding it out. Finn Schnyder was disappointed to only line up thirteenth while Will Hoskins and Elroy Wagner were two other big names along with Simon to be left scratching their heads after being surprisingly out-qualified by their team mates. Diego Campos slipped back from practice and will start three places behind Nikolai Milkovich with a lap time seven tenths slower, while Hugh Dwyer failed to set a lap at all after the electrical problems that confined reserve driver Sebastian Bergkvist to the garage in practice yesterday, continued.
