Bradley Downton has labelled the performance of his drivers Nathaniel Powers and Klaas van Snelheid in the Belgian V-Prix as "unacceptable" and "a disgrace". The duo both made errors during the race; van Snelheid's costing the Dutchman a third win in three years and handing the victory to rival Enrique Ruiz, and Powers' costing him any chance of points during the race, allowing Franklin to reduce the gap in the Constructors' race.
"What we saw today from both drivers was absolutely unacceptable," Downton commented post-race. "The mistakes they made were on the level of that I'd expect from a rookie - in their first ever single seater race! It was simply a disgrace." "We had a chance to clinch the Constructors' today, but our drivers threw that one away. Thankfully, the damage wasn't too significant, but we're in a far weaker position than we hoped. However, we do still have the advantage, and the sole aim in Mexico is to secure the Constructors' Championship." "The drivers will know this in the debrief later, and will also know that further displays like today will not be tolerated, and action will be taken. If they now lose the Drivers' Championship to Enrique, it is their own fault." Downton's harsh comments come following rumours the team have signed junior driver Matteo Zetticci on a full-time contract. The Italian finished fifth in VWRS this season in his rookie year - also taking rookie of the year honours - and has shown considerable talent so far, with some whispers in the paddock now indicating he may be fast-tracked straight into a race seat.
