Downton High Performance Engines and DS Performance have tonight released a joint statement announcing the withdrawal of their engine supply to the Lopez and Ocelot teams for 2017.
The statement - posted online - was signed by Downton High Performance Engines Technical Director James Austin and Head of Powertrain for DS Performance Duncan Anderson - and reads as follows.
"Downton High Performance Engines and DS Performance this evening confirm they will withdraw engine supply outside of the Downton FV Team and DS Automobiles Team Mathershaw teams from 2017 onwards.
Ocelot Japan Racing have long made it public knowledge they would prefer a Japanese supplier and rumours in the paddock indicate they're already in contact with various Japanese - and non-Japanese - manufacturers.
The Lopez FV Team have not made as many noises regarding an engine supply however, and we do not believe they have a back-up having only just come on board this year. As such we are willing to re-look at this contract.
This decision has largely come from Downton who believe providing four teams with engines has severely hampered their form this season, however is fully supported by DS."
