Defending Champions Nathaniel Powers and Downton topped the final day of pre-season testing with a run on the super softs to set what also turned out to be the quickest time of the entire test. Powers' table-topping run came with just twenty minutes remaining on the clock and his lap of 1:14.409 displaced Adrien Simon by three tenths of a second, the DS Mathershaw driver lapping on the softs. The team did not escape the test without problems though, as Simon took three hours to get on track after his car suffered a hydraulics failure on the out lap.
Ryota Yoshida put his Ocelot third quickest just two tenths shy of Simon on the same tyres, the Japanese outfit looking set to turn their fortunes around after a strong pre-season. Karl Beckenbauer was fourth fastest for Westwood also on the softs, but was around a second away from Powers and just three thousandths quicker than Enrique Ruiz's Franklin on mediums. The Franklin also encountered issues on the final day, as Ruiz limped back to the pits twice with smoke pouring from the engine compartment. Carson Davenport stunned for Phoenix with sixth fastest on the softs, 1.3 seconds off the ultimate pace and just ahead of AMR reserve Emma Wilson on the supers. Nikolai Milkovich lapped his Ingram on mediums in a time just thousandths slower than Mattson managed yesterday on the supers, a strong end to the British outfits pre-season test after a somewhat difficult previous three days. Elroy Wagner was ninth quickest on the softs for Lopez, with Johan Halvosen rounding out the top ten on mediums. Oleksandr Zozulya concluded a tough test for FIRST with eleventh fastest, albeit on the super soft tyres, while Holmqvist - who have been quickest on the previous two days running on super softs - were just twelfth on the mediums in the hands of Will Hoskins, causing some scratching of heads at the Swedish outfit. Jules Simon propped up the time sheets for Meteor with a lap on the softs, 2.2 seconds away from the fastest time. With that, pre-season testing ends for 2018 and the countdown begins to Australia, just 20 days to go. See below for full times from day four of pre-season testing:
