AMR Autosport, the new owners of debutant F1FVGPC team Force Australia, have confirmed that reserve driver Gerard Alaniz has been retained for testing roles in the 2015 season, with the possibility of racing duties via a driver swap for certain events.
Speaking from the sidelines at the 2014 finale in Mexico, Gerard was pleased to confirm the signing, stating he felt “good to go again”, having sat most of the 2014 season out due to “personal issues”.
“It feels really good to know I have the team backing me, even once I had let Hiroto take over,” stated Gerard. “The new owners were talking to me since Spain and agreed that I should have another chance to show my skill again next year.”
The ever-reclusive Petersen, former owner of Force Australia and part-stakeholder, was not available in person, but wished Gerard well and thanked him for his perseverance.
It’s known that AMR will likely appoint a new team principal to lead the outfit into the next season, given Petersen’s seldom appearances.
