It has finally been confirmed that teams will be able to choose their own numbers starting from next season. After the idea was introduced mixed reactions were received. However after a vote of team managers that consisted last week; teams will need to choose their won personal numbers that will remain on their cars.
Team managers must choose two numbers that are adjacent to each other; with the odd number being first. Numbers such as 5 and 6, 21 and 22, 73 and 74 would be accepted. However numbers such as 12 and 13, 90 and 91 would not be accepted as the odd number must be first. Whatever team is fielding the reigning drivers champion must present the numbers 1 and 2 on their cars. This would mean Downton would carry the numbers 1 and 2 next season as Nathaniel Powers is joining them. The numbers teams choose must stay with them for as long as they compete in the series. Fielding the drivers champion being the only exception. Although many teams have already stated their chosen numbers, teams will officially choose their numbers at the conclusion of this season. The team higher up in the championship will have first pick of numbers and so on. "It was an idea to start of with, and than it got mixed reviews. Therefor it was a tricky decision to make as so many were into the idea but many were quite against it. I'm happy for the idea to go ahead as I believe it will give each team more of an identity or legacy. You would be able to associate the numbers 21 and 22 with Mathershaw for example. This series is a series of it's own. I see no reason to follow real life F1 with their points system. I want it to be unique, and I think giving teams their own personal numbers is just that", said Morley.
