Reigning Champions Adrien Simon and DS Mathershaw have ended the first day of pre-season testing for the 2017 Formula Virtual season at the top of the time sheets, picking up where they left off in Brazil last year.
Simon posted a 1:12.897 late on in the session to head AMR's Felix Beyer by just over three quarters of a second, with both cars running on the soft tyres, however the times that turned heads were those of Westwood and Downton.
Running on medium and hard tyres respectively, Nikolajis Christodoulou and Nathaniel Powers posted times good enough for third and fifth places. Christodoulou was just shy of eight tenths off the pace, while Powers lap of 1:14.043 was just over one second slower than Simon, despite being on a tyre compound two steps harder.
The day ran with minimal disruptions, with just a sole red flag to recover the stranded Ocelot of reserve driver Enzo Domenicalli after the teams new Honda engine developed a fault on track.
