Arrow Mechanics will join Formula Virtual in 2020 to become the fourteenth team, following the departure of Andromeda. The German outfit which will be led by Ben Farrell will race with the numbers 3 and 4; last used by the defunct FUN team.
Formula Virtual CEO, Nic Morley, opened up a tender a week ago to fill the fourteenth spot for the 2020 season. It is believed that there were four very good applicants, but only one, being Arrow Mechanics, successful to join at this time. Ben Farrell was said to believed to be ecstatic with this news, with the Brit also providing some statements about his new team for Formula Virtual. "Arrow Motorsport Team originates from a primarily endurance racing-based background with varied success over the years; so Motorsport is nothing new to us. Being based in Stuttgart, we pride ourselves on being the pinnacle of the German Formula Virtual endeavor in the coming years". "We see our venture into Formula Virtual as an opportunity to expand our trophy cabinet and as a booster for our experience and reputation, progress may be a little slow during our first years as a team in the sport due to the vast experience already on show in FV, but we have many links already in place such as an engine supplier; which of course will be announced over the coming weeks, and hope to establish ourselves as a force to be reckoned with". "The team, being recently established in single-seater racing, has a lot to learn but a lot of passion to get us through, a fair amount of funding has been allocated to the team in its attempt at Formula Virtual success, so the only limit is how far that can take us. We are still currently looking for a title sponsor so the car and name may change from there, but at the moment we are happy and proud to announce our entry into the 2020 season", said Ben Farrell. There is currently no concrete evidence of which engine supplier Arrow may choose, however there is speculation there may be a linkage, due to their German heritage, with Porsche; whom are joining the sport next year with Mathershaw. It is the same story with the driver line up; no rumors so far but their are many talented drivers waiting in the wings. Nic Morley also provided his statement on Arrow Mechanics joining Formula Virtual in 2020. "I'm very happy to accept Arrow Mechanics and the team boss, Ben Farrell, into Formula Virtual next season. Ben is rather new to the Formula Virtual community, but in his short time here he has shown to me he has a lot of passion for Formula Virtual. This has easily been the most difficult decision on deciding on a team to join Formula Virtual, but deciding on Arrow Mechanics ultimately felt like the best choice". "I'm very excited to see how this team will operate and what success they may achieve. I wish Ben and his team the very best and want to give him a warm welcome into the competitive sport of Formula Virtual". "I did receive four applications this time out. All four of them were very, very good, and I would have been happy with either one of them. This was a very tough decision to make. When we get four good applications like we have done this time out, we know the future competition in Formula Virtual is looking strong", said Nic Morley. The 2019 season started off with sixteen teams; however has lost Excelsior, Andromeda, Franklin, and Holmqvist in the process, bringing it down to twelve. The return of Westwood and the debut of Arrow will see it brought back up to fourteen. It is currently unknown whether a spot would be opened up for a fifteen team, with sixteen being completely ruled out.
