Puccio Giodano has taken his second pole position in a row for Ocelot, however the session was anything but straightforward for the Italian, who had to overcome mechanical gremlins and was only left with enough time for a single run.
Puccio Giodano continued his and Ocelot's recent strong run of form with the fastest time in practice for the Turkish V-Prix, albeit just half a tenth of a second quicker than Adrien Simon.
Sebastian Bergkvist will make his full-season debut with Koenigsegg Team Holmqvist in 2019, the Swedish outfit have announced on the eve of the Turkish V-Prix.
Good morning FV fans, welcome to Istanbul, Turkey ahead of this weekend’s Turkish V-Prix, round fourteen of the 2018 Formula Virtual season. Joining us for today’s Thursday press conference; on the back row we have Dylan Lopez of Lopez FV Team and Adrian Arnello of Arnello Milner & Ronson Autosport. On the front row are; Alex Easton from Phoenix Motorsport, Arthur Lapierre and Robert Mathershaw; both from DS Automobiles Team Mathershaw, and Rai Miyamoto of Ocelot Japan Racing. Welcome gentlemen.
Puccio Giodano took his second win this season after holding off the two DS Mathershaw cars of Adrien Simon and Allar Kangur in an enthralling battle. The latter two spun off multiple times and left Giodano to take victory, but only after the Italian spun off at the final corner. Simon ended up second while Nathaniel Powers was third after a spin in the opening stages. Olen Inman was an unspectacular fourth while Kangur was fifth after a poor strategy call. Enrique Ruiz was sixth after a collision with Ryota Yoshida at the final corner, which saw the latter retire. Klaas van Snelheid also retired after reversing into the wall.
Kazukia Armos and Dylan Lopez were on hand together at Istanbul to ’officially’ confirm the immediate futures of Jules Simon, Sebastian Vocquelin, Jamie Gerrard and Mario Juan Lopez.
As the Formula Virtual series approaches Istanbul for the upcoming Turkish V-Prix, North Star Racing have announced that Johan Halvosen will remain with the team for the 2019 season.
Ocelot have confirmed that former Holmqvist driver Tumo Kinnumen will be joining the team for the remainder of the season. The Finn was dropped by the Swedish team after the United States V-Prix following a collision with his teammate, and will race for the Japanese team until the end of 2018 before moving to Franklin next year. It comes after Puccio Giodano scored the teams second win in Bahrain.
Ocelot team manager Rai Miyamoto said "I think is a great move for us, which could hopefully benefit us greatly. He's a fantastic driver with 2 wins already under his belt.'' Ocelot place fourth in the championship, 17 points behind Franklin,. Whether this moves benefits them remains to be seen. Ocelot's fine form under the floodlights continued into Saturday, as Puccio Giodano secured pole position for tomorrow's race. The Italian was the only driver to break the 1:28 barrier, with a flawless lap just 15 minutes into the session that ultimately couldn't be bettered.
Ryota Yoshida lead a session for the first time in his career after beating his teammate Puccio by just under a tenth, with Nathaniel Powers a further half a tenth behind. Klaas van Snelheid was 3 tenths off his teammate, not able to keep up with his or the Ocelot’s pace
