The city of Melbourne, is famous for many things. It's diverse cultures, tight lane-ways, street art, and it's passion for sport. This weekend kicks off the second season of the F1F Virtual Grand Prix Championship, and what a place to do it in, Melbourne. A booming city home to over 4 million people, and was second in the throne to hosting a race behind Adelaide back in the 80's and 90's. Today, we asked some VGPC experts to give us their tips for the first round, and the overall champion. Martin Crumble
- Albert Park Podium I am predicting a 1-2 for Liverpool GP, with Adrien Simon taking the win from his teammate, Karl Beckenbauer. Both Liverpool cars have shown tremendous pace throughout testing at Jerez and it would be very hard to overlook them. The battle for 3rd wasn't as easy as deciding the top 2: Scuderia Rossi have been right up there with Liverpool, Franklin could be hiding some up their sleeves, and even teams like Peugeot, Ingram, and even Westwood have shown bursts of speed in testing, but I am going with Enzo Domenicalli to round off the podium. He set blistering times when he took to the track, and race simulations on Day 2 for him looked excellent. - Surprise Driver Given his amazing testing pace, I believe Nikolai Milkovich for Ingram GP has what it takes to score big points for Ingram, he managed an amazing 3rd position on Day 3, 2 tenths off Liverpool. If he gets his mojo going, I hear he is a very good overtaker... - Season 2 Champion Phew, I made a bet now, I'd be putting my money on either of the Liverpool drivers. At this stage, I'm backing Simon to win it, but there is 17 Rounds of the season to go. Liverpool will also dominate the Constructors Championship David Frost - Albert Park Podium Beckenbauer, Domenicalli, Mattson. I reckon KLM Team 23 will get pack to full speed very quickly after a poor testing showing, with only Beckenbauer and Domenicalli checking their rear-view mirrors ahead of him. - Surprise Driver I cannot go past the likelihood of James Harding impressing his home crowd at Warrior Racing. He only finished 17th last year, but with as much experience as most of the drivers around him, expect him at least in the Top 10 with a cheering crowd at the end. - Season 2 Champion Liverpool. Liverpool all day, all night for the constructors. Karl Beckenbauer will be getting the grand trophy Ted Habbits - Albert Park Podium I'm not going to jump straight to any conclusions off the top of my head. This is the first round of the new season, and anything could happen. Even Force Australia or Warrior could win! (Laughs) On a more serious note, it is very difficult to look past Beckenbauer and/or Simon to win the race. Although Robert Mathershaw's team had a poor performance first time around, this time they'll get it right. I don't really think I am going to bother with predicting 3rd place, there are way too many drivers in contention. One good strategy will be the difference. My gut is going with Domenicalli though. - Surprise Driver I reckon Nikolai Milkovich will be the surprise driver, and I thought after testing that he was one of the many in the fight for a podium. If not expect him well inside the Top 10. - Season 2 Champion Again, this topic is a lottery. There is 17 rounds, and 425 points up for grabs. I can't look past one of the Rossi or Liverpool cars leading the championship after Mexico, ditto with the constructors. Now it is over to you. What are your predictions for: The Podium, The Surprise Driver, and the Season 2 Driver's and Constructor's Champion. Will Liverpool and Rossi continue on from their impressive testing at Jerez? Will Franklin and Team 23 make up lost ground over winter? Who will win the midfield battle, which is tighter than ever? And who will win the battle of the rookie teams between Force Australia and Warrior Racing? Both teams will be looking for bragging rights at the season opener for multiple situations. All of these questions and many more will be answered this weekend Down Under in Melbourne.
