After what has been months of silence from the Southampton based team, they've finally revealed what they intend to do about the many drivers affiliated with the team itself. With talk rife in the paddock of who would be driving for Westwood next year, team principal Harry Westwood was finally kind enough to reveal all. It is now confirmed, that Tumo Kinnumen will stay on for a fourth consecutive season, driving car number 69 for the first time since 2014. However, surprisingly, youngster Finn Schnyder will be partnering him for Westwood's fifth season in Formula Virtual. This was a highly unexpected move, but Harry stated;
"I believe it's in the team's best interests. He's a young talent and we want to encourage his growth as an athlete. Unfortunately for now the best way to do that as well as allowing the team to take larger strides toward the front is to bench Nikolajis for now. He's happy with the decision, there have been long talks about this." This means Finn will drive the car number 70 for the season while Christodoulou is taking up a testing role. In other news, their youth driver Will Taylor's contract has expired and he will not be retained. He is open to Formula Virtual drives if they're available but rumour has it he's been recently expressing his interest in Indyvirtual. As Westwood's youth drivers for the last couple of seasons have now been promoted, they wanted to draft in a new driver. He goes by the name Sergio Alvarez, and hopes to move forward in FV2 next season. He's the only driver currenty part of their driver development programme. Tumo Kinnumen's contract is set to expire at the end of the 2017 season, as is Christodoulou's. However, Finn Schnyder is now contracted to the team for 3 years, and his contract will expire at the end of the 2019 season. That's all from Westwood today, see you all on the track in a few days time for the young driver's test!
