Downton F1 driver Marcus Thunder has declared himself "delighted" with his and the teams performance during the season opening Australian Grand Prix. The nineteen year old Brit - who is still the youngest driver on the grid - brought his car home in fifth place after qualifying it seventh. "Well that wasn't half bad was it, cracking," Thunder commented after the race. "She was an absolute beauty to drive all weekend. Glued to the track and as quick as anything I've ever driven, a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Myself personally and us as a team are delighted with the performance."
"Coming off the back of last season where we struggling to get the car off the back row of the grid to now come here and be fighting towards the front for points is an incredible achievement from all the guys and girls and I am so happy with how everything's gone." "I think the most impressive thing is how well the engine works. Comparing to Peugeot for example, they had a lot of money and resources to spend developing and fine tuning the engine before the season started. On a much lesser budget we've created one that will keep up with them easily and is actually the quickest in the speed traps, it's quite an accomplishment." When asked about his last lap lunge on Peugeot's Lewis Ellington that very nearly caused heartbreak for them both Thunder replied, "I know how much more a fourth place is worth than a fifth, and as a team we need everything (money-wise) we can get to keep up development. I went for it but quickly realised it wouldn't work and back out as much as I could. Me and Lewis have spoken about it and everything is fine."
