Defending world champion Adrien Simon followed up his win in Turkey with a session-topping time in practice ahead of the Bahrain V-Prix as the Formula Virtual field got to grips with the short circuit following a last-minute change. The usual circuit layout was set to be used but problems were noticed with some kerbs in the middle sector at turns 5, 6 & 7. The pre-event teams press conference was cancelled so team principals could get out with drivers and officials alike to inspect, and the decision was taken to run on the short 'paddock' circuit this weekend.
Simon has no problems getting to grips with the late change however, ending up over four tenths clear with a lap time of 1:04.294. Enrique Ruiz was next up ahead of the Downton pair - Klaas leading Powers - while North Star surprised at a notable 'power track' by getting both cars in the top six. Oleksandr Zozulya was seventh but the first of many drivers to make a mistake on the arguably tricky short circuit by spinning at turn 3. He was in good company however as Lewis Ellington, Elroy Wagner, Jochem van Snelheid and Ruiz also all misjudged the new corner. The two Westwood's of Tumo Kinnumen and Finn Schnyder sandwiched Allar Kangur to round out the top ten, with no huge surprises in the rest of the field. The session did see a brief stoppage when the red flags flew to recover Puccio Giodano's stricken Franklin, his rebuilt Honda engine having blown up on the start-finish straight.
