Enrique Ruiz snatched a last minute pole position ahead of the Portuguese V-Prix, denying Judson Sikes who put in an incredibly strong performance and will start on the front row for the first time in his career as a result. Ruiz's lap came late in the session and beat Sikes by just 0.061, while Nathaniel Powers had to settle for heading the second row, just under two tenths away from pole position.
Arden Hutchinson will start fourth while Puccio Giodano makes it two Franklin's in the top five, and championship leader Klaas van Snelheid starts from sixth place, the Dutchman still unhappy after struggling with the balance of his car. Karl Beckenbauer heads the fourth row which will be shared with Tumo Kinnumen, while Oleksandr Zozulya and Finn Schnyder complete the top ten. Further back however there was disaster for DS Mathershaw as Adrien Simon and Allar Kangur could only manage 14th and 15th on the grid, with both evidently frustrated at the apparent lack of pace in the car, made even more surprising after Simon topped practice yesterday. Hugh Dwyer - who was second yesterday - was also disappointed to only qualify 16th, while the Meteor's, Ingram's, Lopez's, FUN's and Ocelot's make up the back of the grid.
