The forecast of rain set tongues wagging in the FV paddock with the hope it may peg back the Downton team, yet the downpour only served to play to their advantage as the British team took their fourth front row lockout of the season with Nathaniel Powers nearly half a second clear of Klaas van Snelheid. Arden Hutchinson continued FIRST's strong run of form with third place - albeit three quarters of a second behind Klaas - with reigning champion Adrien Simon joining him on the second row. Karl Beckenbauer's impressive practice pace carried over with the German putting his new North Star fifth on the grid ahead of Tumo Kinnumen, while Enrique Ruiz will share the fourth row with the biggest surprise of the session - Olen Inman. The Monegasque once again put his FUN far higher than the usual dry pace showed in a wet qualifying session, outpacing a DS Mathershaw and a Franklin.
Despite qualifying ninth Allar Kangur will start fourteenth as a result of the five-place grid penalty he was handed following a collision at Silverstone, meaning Elroy Wagner will start in the top ten for the first time since China. Holmqvist were disappointed with twelfth and thirteenth after strong results in recent races, while Finn Schnyder, Oleksandr Zozulya and Judson Sikes couldn't get near their respective team mates and will line up fifteenth to seventeenth. Despite the poor conditions only one red flag flew, as a result of a bizarre collision between James Harding and Aleksy Nowosinki with twenty minutes remaining in the session, meaning both missed out on the best conditions and will start towards the back. See below for full qualifying classification and grid with tyre choices for the race:
