Nathaniel Powers came out on top in a tight Bahrain qualifying to take his eighth pole position of the season in a session that saw the top five split by less than five tenths on Bahrain's short 'paddock' circuit. Lewis Ellington posted the first proper effort to take provisional pole before he was pipped by Allar Kangur to set a very unusual provisional front row with just half an hour left in the session. As the clock ticked on however times improved dramatically with Adrien Simon moving to pole position before the Downton's and Franklin's took the battle further.
Puccio Giodano took pole with his final lap but was quickly deposed by 0.084 by team mate Enrique Ruiz, while a small mistake from championship leader Klaas van Snelheid left him only third. Nathaniel Powers left the best until last however as he beat Ruiz by 0.102 to take pole, while Karl Beckenbauer impressed to get in amongst the duelling British teams, incredibly slotting into the 0.007 gap between Giodano and Klaas. Tumo Kinnumen ended the day in sixth while Simon slipped to seventh ahead of Ellington, Judson Sikes and Kangur - who rounded out the top ten. Behind him both Finn Schnyder and Hugh Dwyer were within half a second of pole position, while FIRST were disappointed with a qualifying session that will see them only starting on the seventh row. The race tomorrow is expected to be the hottest in Formula Virtual history, with the tyre choices ultimately reflecting that. All drivers bar Hugh Dwyer will start on the mediums or hards, while the Canadian has opted for the soft compound.
