Downton driver Nathaniel Powers has this evening been released from hospital following his horrific accident in the Austrian V-Prix, and has vowed to race at Silverstone for his home V-Prix next Sunday. The below statement from Powers was posted on Downton's official website.
'I'd like to start by saying thank you to the marshals, the medical staff at the circuit, and the many nurses and doctors at the hospital for everything they've done. The team too have been brilliant, and the number of messages and well-wishes I've had has been truly incredible, so thank you. I'm quite sore, the injury list is long but nothing that can't be well managed with rest and some strong painkillers, and that's exactly how I intend to get through Silverstone where I fully expect to be racing in front of my home crowd; which the doctors advise is entirely possible if I look after myself. I look forward to being there, meeting so many of you guys who have wished me well, and will be going all out for my first home victory.' Powers' Downton team have revealed that he suffered a number of injuries in the accident, and will need to be cleared by medics at Silverstone both before and after the practice session to ensure he is safe to race. Powers suffered a fractured right foot, lightly sprained right wrist, dislocated right shoulder, bruised ribs and a broken fifth finger on his right hand. He was pictured leaving hospital in a wheelchair pushed by his fiancée Mia, with his right arm in a sling - though this is expected to removed by the weekend.
