In pole position Will Hoskins, driving for the Franklin Formula One Team.
In second, Karll Beckenbauer of Liverpool Grand Prix.
And in third, Nathaniel Powers from Team Downton.
Will Hoskins: Thanks! I’m so pleased with today’s result. We’ve been getting closer to Liverpool, but our outright pace has always been a little shy of theirs, so to finally beat them in a straight fight like this is a really good feeling!
Q: Karl, second again, but three races and three front rows, that has to be good? Can you take the fight to Franklin in the race and reverse what happened in Malaysia?
Karl Beckenbauer: Second is a horrible place, first of the losers! Front rows mean nothing if you can’t convert them to a podium or win, so I’m not satisfied, everything has to fit together. Franklin are quick, they’ve out developed us because of their budget, the team with the biggest budget will always end up with the best car, simple really. Anyway, I think if we can get a clean race for a change and maybe even have Franklin get some of the bad luck, we will be OK. I know we’ve only had two races, but let’s be honest, after what happened to Adrien in Australia and our misfortune in Malaysia, we’d have had two wins and two podiums between us, and we’d be clear in the constructors.
Q: Nathaniel, delightful to see you back here. Is it fair to say, after the team's struggles last season, this comes as a bit of surprise?
Nathaniel Powers: In all honesty, yeah a little. Obviously we've had a solid start to the season but I never expected to be in one of these top three press conferences. However, I have to say that the car has felt tremendous so far this weekend. Practice was nice and in qualifying, I think we really maximised the performance. Bradley has told me he'd be happy with a top five finish, but I am desperate to get this team back onto the podium. They are a fantastic bunch of guys and hugely deserve it!
Q: And finally Will, back to you. You said in Malaysia, and I quote ’If we can keep up this kind of rate with development, then I think we can definitely take the fight to them again in the desert’, and that’s certainly proved to be the case. So do I take this to believe you have some big upgrades here?
Will Hoskins: The guys at the factory have been working tirelessly, as per usual, and it’s certainly paid off. We had some small revisions to the front and rear wing, which seemed to have helped the balance. But I think the biggest change is the cooling in the sidepods, which means we can run the engine much better here in Bahrain. The heat makes it difficult to run efficiently for long periods of time, so perhaps that’s the real advantage we have here, especially with the long straights. But anyway, tomorrow is the real test, and hopefully both Enrique and I can finish on the podium.
