Phoenix Motorsport will become the nineteenth team to compete in Formula Virtual in 2018 after being revealed as the series 'thirteenth' team. Formula Virtual CEO, Nic Morley, was quoted as saying it was an "easy" desision to green light the entry of Phoenix to Formula Virtual. Alex Easton will head the operation after having previous experience of team management in FV3, FV2, and recently IndyVirtual.
“Before I say anything else, I want to express my sadness at seeing FUN FV Team depart the series. They’ve been a truly great team since the start and personally, I’ve always found them very easy to have a soft spot for. However, I cannot hide the fact that myself and the team were absolutely ecstatic when we were informed we’d be the newest addition to Formula Virtual! I won’t waffle on too much right now as I’ve got a heck of a lot of phone calls to make and people to see, but I’m sure you’ll hear plenty more from me in the very near future!”, stated Alex Easton. This means the team line up for the 2018 season is now complete with two races to spare. Phoenix Motorsport will become the sixth team to race under a British license in 2018. Phoenix Motorsport FV Team are a small British team based in Middleton, Greater Manchester. They have competed in FV2 since the 2015 season and FV3 since 2016, scoring 98 points across their 3 season’s in FV2. Phoenix will be powered by Judd engines, which will be the first time Judd has provided engines for a Formula Virtual team. The race numbers to be used will be numbers 41 & 42 and the chassis will be called the PX1. "I am very happy to welcome Alex Eaton and his team, Phoenix Motorsport, to the Formula Virtual family. With Phoenix joining the sport it means we can continue to see a very healthy twenty-six car grid once again for next year. I am very excited for the sport for next year and I believe Phoenix has joined at a really good time. This was an easy decision for me to grant Alex's entry. Alex has already been a known member around the paddock and has already contributed so much by running the pre race weekend press conferences. I've got no doubt that he and his team will be a brilliant addition to Formula Virtual", said Nic Morley. "That said I want to give a early very warm farewell to Dick Diceman and FUN FV. They have been apart of Formula Virtual from the very beginning, and was actually one the very first teams to show their interest in the series. This team, pun intended, has brought the fun to the sport with their creative liveries throughout the years. Their 2013 one was a sight to behold, and their very latest is a master piece. I wish Dick Diceman the absolute very best for his future and I hope to see his friendly face around the paddock throughout many more seasons", finished Morley. The addition of Phoenix Motorsport to the grid now creates two new spaces for drivers. Currently there are many highly rated drivers without drives for the 2018 season, and rumors are already starting to spread that the new team may be interested in the services of Carson Davenport and Jochem van Snelheid. Although nothing been confirmed, the 2018 silly season has taken one last turn.
