AMR have sadly announced the withdrawal of current team owner Ryan Petersen from the team due to terminal illness, with a trio set to take his place following news of a lifeline for the ailing Australian outfit. After months of speculation, it has been confirmed that the outgoing team owner is terminally ill with lung cancer and will take no further place in the sport. The news broke following the Canadian vPrix, where a sullen-eyed Petersen bravely faced the press for what appears to be the final time.
"It's just how life goes. We've done all we can, both personally and with the team, but now is my time to say goodbye." "I've been able to witness a small start-up warehouse team evolve and grow into an incredible family of personnel, engineers, technicians, mechanics, and more. We fought for wins and podiums in a car that, frankly, we never thought would be achieved. The highs and lows of AMR's involvement have been an incredible adventure. Now, it's time for it to end, but the team will continue to fight onward with the same passion we entered with." When asked about the team's future amidst the furor of AMR's split from the team, Petersen managed a smile. "It's been sombre back home, but I can guarantee, before I leave, that we will be on the grid next year. Some hope on the horizon, if you will!" With Petersen, who worked in and alongside the team since entered as Force Australia, now out of the picture, eyes are focused on who has stepped up to the challenge of guiding the team through it's turmoil, and more so, how they will continue to operate with the majority of funding and personnel having left in August. A mechanic who has seen through the thick of the scenario left a cryptic hint of who the immediate successor will be. "Not all of the AMR fellas have vanished, you know," he said slyly while the media paddock cleared. "One lad didn't like what they did at all. Felt for us. He's apparently got the [sic: money] dough to buy out the team. Few of his mates as well."
