CHARLOTTE, NC – FIRST Motorsport have announced the promotion of Ukrainian youth academy driver Oleksandr Zozulya to the role of test and reserve driver for 2017. Zozulya is currently 2nd in the FV2 drivers’ standings behind Klaas van Snelheid. FIRST Motorsport Team Principal and co-founder Adam Blocker released the following statement: “Oleksandr has done a fine job so far this season in FV2 with Kannan GP. He deserves the chance to prove his worth against our race drivers and gain experience in Formula Virtual equipment. Oleksandr will have the opportunity to participate in quite a few practice sessions during V-Prix weekends and to participate in the pre-season test days. Oleksandr will also continue his FV2 efforts next season, where he should be challenging for the title.” Zozulya had the following to say about his promotion: “I am pleased to have earned a promotion for 2017. I am excited to have the opportunity to get a lot of kilometers in a Formula Virtual car next season. Right now my top priority is to clinch the runner-up position in the FV2 championship now that I can’t catch Klaas. I hope to challenge for the title in FV2 while gaining experience in Formula Virtual sessions next season. The combination of the two will hopefully prepare me for a Formula Virtual career and prove to Formula Virtual teams that I deserve a drive.” With Zozulya confirmed as the team’s reserve driver, FIRST have confirmed their complete driver line up. Hutchinson and Bacon will remain in their places as race drivers and Zozulya will replace Jamie Gerrard as the team’s reserve driver. Zozulya has won races in four junior series in three years, having won at least one race in FV3, FV2 Winter, VWRS, and FV2. Zozulya is 28 points ahead of his nearest rival for 2nd place in the FV2 championship, Rodolfo de la Fuente. Fellow FIRST youth academy driver Felix Perez is in 7th place in the championship, but is only 39 points behind Zozulya in the championship.
