“It certainly won’t be a popular decision, by any stretch of the imagination,” confirmed Franklin. “I know that Enrique isn’t too pleased with it, but it’s something that I feel is necessary. Behind the scenes, Mattias has done some fantastic work in the simulator, and although these guys are fighting for the title, I feel it’s in the best interest in the team to have him drive here. It will not only give us a good indication of his ability compared to our current line up, but also a much better correlation of data between the track and our simulator,”
Though we were unable to catch up with Ruiz, we did manage to get a comment from Hirvonen.
“I’m absolutely ecstatic to be given this opportunity. I know the first time around, I didn’t do phenomenally well, but to be given a second chance, and in a Championship winning team is all the inspiration I need to show what I can do,”
It will be very interesting to see how this low-rated driver will fair against a multiple race winner.
