Just over 24 hours removed from their shock victory at the 2017 Canadian V-Prix, North Star Racing have formally announced that a new contract has been signed with engine supplier BMW, which will see the German marque power the British outfit through at least the 2019 season. "It seems like the perfect opportunity to make it official," team principal Nick Forrest told gathered reporters. "BMW have been an integral part of the North Star team since the outset, and with their first win as an engine supplier since 2013 in the bag - and our first win, period - we're all hugely looking forward to seeing where the partnership can go from here."
The last win for a BMW-powered car came in the Spanish V-Prix of the inaugural 2013 season for the infamous Zyla team, and in the press conference before this year's Turkish V-Prix, Forrest joked that after surpassing Zyla's points total, a victory was now the team's target. "I've got to be honest, it was very much tongue-in-cheek when I said that! I don't think anybody in the paddock expected that we would actually win a race any time soon, especially in only our second season, but everything came together, the strategy worked perfectly, and it actually happened!" After reaching the top step of the podium in only their 33rd race in Formula Virtual, Forrest believes that by extending their deal with BMW, further victories could now be in the future for North Star Racing. "We're a race-winning team now! It still feels bizarre to say that, but with BMW and Magna International alongside us, hopefully it is the first of many."
