It was another very hot day at Estoril with many fans and drivers being seen splashing water over themselves. Adrien Simon kept the coolest as he swooped in to take pole of a time of 1.24.133. Following the controversy at Franklin F1 after the Spanish Grand Prix; Enrique Ruiz out qualified his teammate to take second. It was another solid qualifying session for Nathaniel Powers as he set the third quickest time of the day in his Downton. Karl Beckenbauer set the fourth quickest time, albeit two tenths away from his pole sitting teammate. Puccio Giodano will be hoping to bounce back from the results of Indianapolis and Barcelona, as he set the fifth fastest time. Will Hoskins could only manage sixth fastest, perhaps feeling a little disappointed and pressured over the last two races. Marcus Thunder ensured both Downtons in the top seven with a solid lap in the dying moments of the session. Kip Maxwell was the fastest Westwood in eight; a disappointing day for the team after a strong Friday practice. Carson Davenport had the crowd cheering him on as the Portuguese was ninth fastest. Jean Mattson rounded out the top ten for Team 23. Nikolai Milkovich missed out on the top ten with the eleventh fastest time. Kurtis Gardner followed in twelfth, ahead of the Fun cars of Romano Agostino and Hugh Dwyer. Enzo Domenicalli was left disappointed in fifteenth, ahead of Regi Abott, Elroy Wagner, Lewis Ellington, and Diego Campos. Abel Osterhagen was twenty-first quickest for Warrior Racing. Hiroto Nakmuya followed, however out qualifying Tumo Kinnumen and his teammate Felix Beyer. It was a disaster of a day for Kinnumen, who hit the wall on his fastest lap.; the Finn's first sector indicated he was on track for a top three placing. It was an important day for Liverpool, as they bid to hold onto their championship lead on both the constructors and the drivers. Will Hoskins will be desperate for a strong points haul after the last two races. Adrien Simon and Enrique Ruiz out qualified their championship leading teammates, and both will be aiming for victory and a closer look at the championship lead. Weather reports indicate no chance of rain, with the high temperatures expected to rise instead.
