Meteor Motorsport have announced that Gerard Alaniz has ceased operations with the team with immediate effect. Ivan Lesic has stepped in as a replacement. It is widely known that Ivan Lesic will be leaving Mathershaw to be reserve and test driver for Meteor, turning Peugeot next season. Most would not have expected him to be jumping ship so soon though.
It appears that after many poor performances, Kazuki Armos has finally bid farewell to Gerard Alaniz. Alaniz who was confirmed to be test driver for Peugeot next season, was then confirmed to have lost his contract with the team to sign as race driver for debutants Force Australia, has had few stellar performances compared to new teammate Romano Agostino. An official statement from Meteor has been released: 'We are now in a position to confirm that Gerard Alaniz has left the team with immediate effect and will not participate in the final three races of the season. We wish him success as him starts work with Force Australia immediately. We are pleased to announce that Ivan Lesic will be replacing departing Alaniz for the final races of the season. Ivan will be a promising talent for the future and while we want results at the end of the season, we are using this opportunity to evaluate his performance prior to the start of the next season'. A statement from Mathershaw followed: 'We are pleased that Ivan has graduated to a racing seat for the end of the season. We have always believed in his talent and have natured him through the season, we hope he succeeds. We are sorry we could not provide his race debut, but we hope it's still a great success.' Kazuki Armos has been rumoured to trying to release Alaniz from his duties for many weeks after repeated poor performances against Romano Agostino. It appears as a tight battle between Meteor and Westwood is unfolding, the team are pushing for the best results possible.
