Klaas van Snelheid has taken his second career pole position at Monza ahead of the Italian V-Prix, comfortably seeing off his only challenger in team mate Nathaniel Powers as Downton stretched away from the field following a close practice session yesterday. Klaas was never bettered in the session from his first lap and Powers couldn't even get within four tenths of his team mates lap of a 1:26.456, with the two Downton's the only cars to break under the 87 second barrier.
After a reasonable practice session yesterday Westwood showed even better pace with Tumo Kinnumen qualifying third, and Finn Schnyder only being bumped off the second row by three thousandths of a second thanks to a late lap from Enrique Ruiz. Likewise North Star enjoyed a good session with both cars in the top nine, but faces were glum at DS Mathershaw as the French squad failed to get a car inside the top ten as Adrien Simon and Allar Kangur will line up eleventh and twelfth. From there on it was pretty much team-order, with only Meteor and AMR mixing it up on the ninth and tenth rows behind Holmqvist and Lopez, and ahead of the now usual back-three of FUN, Ingram and Ocelot. The Japanese team caused a stir in the paddock after the session after it was revealed they had failed to submit a race strategy by the deadline. As such both Aleksy Nowosinki and Jochem van Snelheid were excluded from the session and will be forced to race on the same compound of tyre they competed on at the last race in Belgium, while also having a 10-second time penalty added to their race times. See below for full qualifying classification and grid with tyre choices for the race:
