The first practice session of the season, held at Albert Park, was held in dry and sunny conditions. This hour long session marked he first time since pre-season testing where the teams and driver could test their cars. Olen Inman has topped the time sheets for the first practice session of the 2016 season, and as such tops his first race weekend session. The DS driver set a lap time of 1.27.356; over six tenths quicker than second fastest, Johan Halvosen. Home crowd favorite, James Harding, posted the third fastest time; much to the delight on the newly re branded Lopez FV Team. Stuart Harrison made it two Meteors in the top four with a time seven tenths off the fastest.
The second Lopez of Jochem van Snelheid was fifth fastest, cementing the promising testing form of Lopez as real. 2014 world champion, Enrique Ruiz, was the fastest Franklin driver of the day. The Brazilian out paced his teammate, and reigning world champion, Elroy Wagner, whom was seventh fastest. The 2015 pace setters were over a second off the fastest time. Adrien Simon split the Franklins' after a ending the day over a second adrift from his new teammate, Olen Inman. Karl Beckenbauer posted the ninth quickest time of the day for Ocelot. Nikolai Milkovich rounded out the top ten in his Ingram. Puccio Giodano whom was recently signed by Ocelot missed out on the top ten with a time two tenths off his teammate, Beckenbauer. Romano Agostino lapped his FUN to the twelfth quickest time, whom was followed by Felix Beyer, and his teammate, Carson Davenport. Lewis Ellington finished the day fifteenth fastest for AMR, edging out the second Ingram of Jean Mattson, and the Downton of Nathaniel Powers. The second Downton of Marcus Thunder finished twentieth fastest, while the Westwood pair of Tumo Kinnumen and Will Hoskins, split the Downtons'. The FIRST pair of Arden Hutchinson, and Douglas Bacon, were next with the twenty-first and twenty-second quickest times. Aleksy Nowosinki was the next on his first first outing for North Star, edging out the Holmqvist pair of Aron Einarsson, and Kiara Thunder. Judson Sikes was last, but failed to set a time due to mechanical issues. While weather forecasts suggested rain during qualifying earlier in the week, it appears that tomorrow will present us with a dry session.
