Ingram GP today confirmed the re-signing of Spaniard Diego Campos. In a small conference, William Ingram and Diego Campos today re-affirmed their mutual desire to continue what has been a prosperous partnership - for both sides.
"I, for one, am delighted that Diego has accepted our offer and is continuing to drive for Ingram next year" said Ingram. "As the first man in Ingram colours to score points, stand on the podium and lead home the pack, Diego is an important part of the history of this team, and I am very happy that we will continue to make history together." Despite alleged interest from both Liverpool and Downton (and reports suggest both parties made preliminary enquiries), Diego Campos will drive for the team next year, his third year for the British team. "Why would I leave?" asked Campos of his questioners, "Here is where I belong, I hope to stay here for as long as I can, and hopefully I can continue to improve as a driver". Campos is somewhat of an enigma as a driver. Unremarkable against Jonas Phipps, regularly behind current team-mate Nikolai Milkovich and crushed by Enrique Ruiz, there is still something to the Spaniard. It was he who broke Ingram's points duck with a masterful drive in the wet US GP, before nicking a point in Belgium. It was these results that made the team keep him ahead of Phipps. Joined by Milkovich, the car seemed to be a step forward, but it was the Russian who was picking up all the points, yet once again he defied all odds to take victory at the US GP (something of a favourite track of his). Since then, he has scored only one more point, time will tell if Ingram have made the right call to hold onto the infuriatingly inconsistent Spaniard.
