Will Hoskins gave Swedish outfit Holmqvist a lot to cheer about with their new engine manufacturer as he topped the times on day two of pre-season testing, albeit on the super soft tyres. The Brit was driving a Holmqvist for the very first time since moving from Westwood but has clearly settled in quickly, though the biggest surprise of the day was that Dmytro Kovalenko in the AMR that looked to be struggling yesterday was just under a tenth behind.
On the same tyres as his team mate Felix Beyer, Kovalenko lapped an impressive nine tenths quicker, a time difference that will make the other teams sit up and take notice. Adrien Simon was third fastest for DS Mathershaw on the soft tyres, but only just over two tenths clear of both Enrique Ruiz and Klaas van Snelheid; the Franklin and Downton drivers split by just 0.006 and both running mediums. The problems of day one seemed long behind them as James Vasquez put in the sixth fastest time for Ingram on the soft tyre, just ahead of Puccio Giodano who got his first outing in the un-liveried Ocelot on mediums. It wasn't all plain sailing however as Giodano threw his car into the gravel and caused the sole red flag; hysterically while being chased down by Ruiz. Sergio Alvarez was another to put in a very strong performance for new outfit Phoenix with eighth fastest on the mediums, albeit nearly a second behind Giodano, but interestingly ahead of Mario Juan Lopez for Lopez and Sebastien Vocquelin in the Meteor on the same tyres. Those two sandwiched Finn Schnyder in tenth, who ran on the hards for Westwood but spent a large portion of the morning session stuck in the garage with a water leak. Judson Sikes and Oleksandr Zozulya also ran on the hards and brought up the tail of the field; with the FIRST last once again, this time a concerning six tenths slower than anyone else. They did however complete the most laps, so there was something to cheer about for the American team. See below for full times from day two of pre-season testing:
