AMR have confirmed that Lewis Ellington has been deemed fit to race in Istanbul Park this weekend, following a medical after a hefty crash in Monza involving teammate Felix Beyer and Ingram driver Nikolai Milkovich. Ellington and Beyer kept close company throughout the Italian Grand Prix, battling for position in the early stages of the race. An opportunistic lunge into Parabolica from Beyer, however, left both drivers in a tangle and Ellington stranded on the inside kerb. Milkovich, unsighted, hit the rear of Ellington's car at great speed, tearing the rear wheel and suspension from the AMR and throwing the chassis across the track. Ellington was taken to the nearby medical facilities, but quickly cleared of any injury.
"It's a shame because I thought he saw me move," lamented Beyer once the race had ended. "I wouldn't have tried it otherwise. We don't need that sort of thing happening when points are up for grabs." Ellington remained fairly tight-lipped about the incident, ruing a lost opportunity to score much-needed points before the European leg comes to an end. "I really didn't think he'd be crazy enough to try that sort of thing, but I guess I was wrong." When asked about the crash, he simply replied with "it was a f***ing big hit!"
