Mathershaw's squad will be run by Lapierre Competition in conjunction with Peugeot under the banner 'Peugeot Sport Team Lapierre', and will run three Peugeot 208 GTi T16's, all entered in the Manufacturer Championship, with Mathershaw himself driving one car, numbered 22.
Meanwhile Downton will run four cars - all in-built Downton Zeelo DS's - with two manufacturer cars running under the 'Downton Motorsport' banner and two independent cars running under 'Monster Energy Downton Racing.' Downton will drive a manufacturer car in number 13.
'I've always wanted to be involved in racing in some way but I'm nowhere near good enough for the VGPC, so the BTCS is a brilliant opportunity. I don't currently have anyone lined up to race in the other three cars but we will soon start talking to a number of people and we fully intend to get the best drivers available.'
When asked if Downton thought he was perhaps spreading himself too thinly by entering this championship as well as the VGPC he responded with, 'Not at all. I run my team, but on the weekends we're not racing, I can compete in this. I know Robert is a huge fan himself and I'm sure none of the rounds will clash. I'll hire someone else to run this team and I'll just drive the car. It'll be nice to see it from the other side!'
Mathershaw was unavailable for comment - reportedly busy finalising deals for the calendar - but was said to be, 'delighted with his teams set-up.'
