The German was on course for his first victory, when he spun while the lighter Nathaniel Powers tried to overtake him into the final chicane.
Elroy Wagner said the crash was entirely not his fault: "I think it was a case of bad karma really. There must have been some oil or gravel on the track which made me spin. And then when I tried to turn the car 'round, it suddenly got some sort of speed boost - it must have been a traction control error or maybe I hit that same patch of oil"
Wagner was not impressed by his team principal's comments: "Well, if he thinks he can do better, then let him drive the car himself."
