Since the finance system was introduced to Formula Virtual in 2014 a development point has been priced at 500,000 each. From the 2018 season on wards the price of an in season development point will cost 250,000; effectively halving the price. However the price of a development point for the following season will still remain at 500,000 each. Nic Morley suggested that this is a boost to produce in season development battles.
"This is a change I have thought long and hard about and today I confirm a change to pricing of a development point from 2018 on wards. If a team develops for the current season it will cost them 250,000 per development point. If a team develops for the next season it would remain as 500,000 per development point. A team can only spend six development points per race, a maximum of three on either the current or the nest season; so none of this changes", explained Morley. "While it is still a massive advantage to start the season off with the quickest car, this new system will now give rival teams a better chance of making in roads, thus creating more in season development battles and more strategic intrigue. Teams should now have more of an incentive to develop for the current season as the price of a development point has halved. Although the price of a development point for the following season remains at 500,000, starting the next season off with the best car still remains very important. Only now, the leading team may have more competition from their rivals, compared to what we have seen in the last couple of years. This is the hope anyway", finished Nic Morley. This change will come into effect from the start of the 2018 Formula Virtual World Championship. Price per development point for current season: 250,000 Price per development point for following season: 500,000 A maximum of 6 development points can be used per race A maximum of 3 development points can be used on each area and year per race
