Nathaniel Powers has topped practice for Downton ahead of the first Formula Virtual race of the 2018 season ahead of team mate Klaas van Snelheid, as the defending Champions look to prove they have no intention of letting go of the crown. Powers lapped the Albert Park circuit - which the series returns to as the season opener this season after the Australian V-Prix took place at Phillip Island last year - in a 1:27.610, just under a tenth and a half quicker than van Snelheid, but with Allar Kangur right in the mix too in third place, only 0.013 further back. Enrique Ruiz put Franklin right amongst the front runners in fourth but was nearly four tenths from the pace, just ahead of Puccio Giodano for Ocelot and Tumo Kinnumen for Holmqvist, two teams who look at though they could be right at the front of the midfield battle this season. Adrien Simon just pipped former team mate Olen Inman to seventh place by two hundredths of a second, while behind were rookies Ryota Yoshida and James Vasquez, split only by the latters team mate who pushed the Colombian out of the top ten. Nonetheless, the top eleven drivers were all within just over six and a half tenths of a second. Karl Beckenbauer was twelfth for Westwood albeit a further half second back, just ahead of Johan Halvosen in the North Star and the two Lopez drivers; Elroy Wagner leading Viktor Ostberg with the second Westwood of Finn Schnyder in between them. Sergio Alvarez put in a fantastic effort for the new Phoenix squad to go seventeenth fastest just ahead of Judson Sikes. Behind, the teams were two-by-two, with Oleksandr Zozulya heading Felix Perez in the FIRST battle, Jules Simon just pipping Sebastian Vocquelin at Meteor, and Felix Beyer getting the better of Dmytro Kovalenko at AMR, as the Australian team rounded out the times. Two drivers failed to set laps in the session; Will Hoskins brand new Koenigsegg engine exploded on just it's second lap, while Carson Davenport never had chance to leave the garage as the team discovered a complicated water leak just five minutes before the scheduled start.
