Meteor Motorsport have announced that Gerard Alaniz will be leaving the team at the end of the season, following the termination of his contract. The news follows the announcement of teams being limited to 4 drivers next season. Alaniz had initially signed a contract to be one of three Peugeot test drivers next season, completing a 5 driver line up.
Todays announcement of teams only racing a maximum of 4 drivers saw the team with no choice but the need to terminate one contract in order to maximise funds. Kazuki Armos was disappointed with the new ruling, 'I was shocked to hear this rule put in place. I feel annoyed that we were allowed to go ahead with having 5 drivers and outlining plans to race all of them during next season. Gerard will always be of great value to all of us here, he has been fantastic.' Meteor confirmed that the decision for Gerard Alaniz to leave the team was of mutual consent. A statement read: 'Following todays announcement, we informed Gerard that he would be the one driver not to get the racing opportunity next season. With his consent he has now left the team'. The development path is changing next season at an increased cost. The return on Gerard's contract over Fazio and Lesic is said to have influenced the team on who to keep in order to gain maximum development benefits. Alaniz is now rumoured to be in swift talks with Molto Veloce, Ingram GP and new entrant Force Australia about a position in the team. PEUGEOT F1 TEAM RACE DRIVERS: L. Ellington R.
