Having denied Nathaniel Powers a large re-signing wage, estimated over £17,000,000, three times the amount the team were going to pay for Will Hoskins, and over twenty times the re-signing Enrique Ruiz cost them, Franklin announced big plans for his team, and why it was simply not possible to re-sign the Championship leader.
Lewis Ellington has since issued an apology to members of the Formula 1 parade for previous controversy that took place earlier in the season.
"While at the moment I am not in a position to apologise to each team principal directly, I would like to meet with all of them individually at some point in the coming weeks to personally apologise, I would like to do it through this statement. The behaviour of my former management was despicable and I should not have allowed that behaviour to take place. I wish that team principals respect that the behaviour was out of my hands as I was given an option of a drive or parting with management. I can since say that I should have not taken the drive, after all, I have lost it already. I am happy to be a member of the Peugeot society now and I hope I am here for the future to come.
Nathaniel Powers has now been publicly acknowledged as a big signing for Downton. There were rumours that things weren't going completely well in terms of negotiations between Franklin and Powers, however, waiting on the wings, ready to pounce was Enrique Ruiz.
