After a poor start to the season by the Peugeot team, the French manufacturing giant has already reduced it's stake in the team. More bad news followed when TF1 also announced they wanted to sell their stake due to cuts by the broadcaster.
Peugeot have now announced that the previously signed Brit, Kurtis Gardner, will take the race seat alongside Jean Mattson for the coming season. Gardner was announced to have a significant role in the team next season, it is now though that it is known that Gardner will be the race driver.
Gardner who is due to be his race debut for LucasGP soon said he is excited at the prospect of racing with Peugeot next season. 'The team are really friendly and they have a superb team of engineers there so I hope things go well. Jean is also a fantastic, mature racer and I'll learn a great deal from a driver of his calibre'. Gardner is reportedly on a single season contract and the team are now known for being ruthless when trying to find the perfect driver line up now changing the entire driver line up for the second consecutive season. It is believed that Jean Mattson has a more secure future with the team as they prepare Kazuki Armos' highly praised young Frenchman Arthur Daniau for his race debut. Daniau was rumoured to have been offered the contract but it appears that the pendulum finally swung in Gardner's favour. Kurtis Gardner's move to Peugeot from LucasGP comes after Peugeot's Lewis Ellington moved the other way to LucasGP. Peugeot have confirmed that Ivan Lesic will remain in the car until the end of the season. He will remain teammate to Lewis Ellington while Regi Abott has lost his racing drive after a series of disappointing results with Lucas GP. It is believed that even though Ivan is on a three race by three race contract, his seat is secure through to the final round.
"I'm in the car through to the finale", a tweet from Lesic read this morning. This sent to the racing world into meltdown after the popular driver announced the news. The team later confirmed this saying there were pleased with Ivan's work and feel he is worthy of retaining the place. Senior members at Peugeot are now reportedly keen to bring Ivan Lesic back to the team in future seasons after losing him to Warrior at a time of financial uncertainty. We take a step out of the virtual world, to interview the man who made the series possible.
Liverpool Grand Prix have announced a major deal for 2015 for the V12 engines that will power their challenger for the third season of the F1 Fanatic Virtual Grand Prix Championship. They will maintain a close partnership with Vauxhall, who will be working alongside their new engine manufacturer in the development of the powertrain and gearbox, but Vauxhall felt the V12 engines wouldn't suit their business model, so Liverpool looked elsewhere for the powerplant. We can exclusively reveal that, for 2015, Liverpool Grand Prix will run Downton engines.
Liverpool Technical Director of Powertrain development Clive Wilson was delighted: 'It's a great deal, we can get a powerplant that has been developed by a dedicated team over at Downton High Performance Engines, and we are maintaining the close relationship with Vauxhall, and the fact both of these brands will work together for us is fantastic.' The driver line-up took a step further to being completed yesterday, as Karl Beckenbauer joined Adrien Simon in remaining with the team for a third season. When questioned, Wilson responded: 'It was important to us that we retained the two drivers that have contributed to the development of our cars over the past two seasons as we enter a new regulations cycle, and we early on decided that they would be heavily involved in the development of the car - which lead to the feeling that it was necessary that we needed to sign them at all costs, and in the end we remained unchallenged in our bids, despite their fantastic performances so far this season.' Despite his re-signing, it is generally considered that one of Liverpool's current drivers will be allocated as the reserve and test driver next season, with their experience proving valuable to the car's development, but the feeling around Ellesmere Port is that a younger driver is needed to give the team security in future seasons, with both of the drivers currently racing for the Liverpool Grand Prix Junior Team, whose engine supply will incidentally remain with Vauxhall, held in high regard around the factory. Following Saturday's incredible qualifying session for the F1 Fanatic Virtual Grand Prix Championship, the youngsters took part in their own qualifying session. For each of the races in the American leg of the championship, the IJGPC sessions occur following their equivalent in the F1FVGPC. After Kiara Thunder's fantastic debut, the attention now turns to the rest of the field: can the fastest drivers of last season get back on top? We're in Canada, racing around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, and this is qualifying for the Molson Dry Grand Prix Juvenile du Canada. New Zealand's Jarod Lindsey will replace Jean Mattson at KLM Team 23-Downton from the Canadian GP onwards. The reason for this appears to be Mattson's disappointing results in the first races of the season
Hugh Dwyer of Fun F1 has topped the practice session ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix. Dwyer's best lap of 1.13.691 was good enough to finish the session ahead of the Liverpool's of Karl Beckenbauer and Adrien Simon. Enrique Ruiz was fourth quickest while Romano Agostino backed up his Finnish team's performance with fifth. Full times below. Team 23 have confirmed they will continue to use Downton engines next season when the Virtual Grand Prix Championship heads into a new era of car design. Downton previously commented that, "the ball was in their [Team 23's] court" regarding the deal, following the announcement that they have a new customer on board for next season. This deal therefore means Downton will supply two teams next season as well as using the engines themselves. Please welcome your top three finishers for the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The winner for the second time this season, Karl Beckenbauer, driving for Liverpool Grand Prix. In second, and securing their first 1-2 finish, Adrien Simon, also driving for Liverpool Grand Prix. And in third for the third time this season, Enrique Ruiz from the Franklin Formula One Team. Following an outstanding weekend for the Russian, Ingram GP confirmed that Milkovich will continue to drive the Ingram car for next season.
